Undergraduate Scholarships

All students in the Department of Nuclear Engineering are automatically considered for a number of merit-based scholarships. You cannot apply for these scholarships, but you will be notified prior to the fall semester if you will be receiving one.

Every spring semester, the department hosts a recognition banquet to honor high-performing upper-division students and to distribute awards to recognize students who have excelled in areas of research, service, and academic performance.

Look for award applications to be posted in January.

The Beecher Loftus Leadership & Service Award in Nuclear Engineering

The Beecher Loftus Leadership & Service Award recognizes nuclear engineering students who have gone above and beyond in acts of service and leadership in their department, college, university or community related to the field of nuclear engineering.

John J. Brennan Excellence in Nuclear Engineering Award

The Brennan Award recognizes a nuclear engineering student for significant academic excellence.

Leonhard Center Speaking Contest

The Leonhard Center Speaking Contest recognizes technical talks on solutions to society problems by engineering students.

The Ken and Mary Alice Lindquist Department of Nuclear Engineering at Penn State is one of the top ranked nuclear engineering programs in the United States. The department distinguishes itself with a strong focus on experimental research. The actively growing department leads four educational programs for students pursuing a bachelor of science, a master of science, a master of engineering, or a doctoral degree. The Radiation Science and Engineering Center (RSEC) facilities, including the Breazeale Reactor, are available to nuclear engineering faculty and students at Penn State for research and instruction. RSEC houses the Breazeale Nuclear Reactor, the country’s first and longest operating licensed nuclear research reactor.
