Cem Topbasi graduated with his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering in the Summer of 2014. He graduated with a M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Turkey prior to joining Materials for Nuclear Power Group at Penn State.
His research focused on the irradiation-induced microstructural evolution of ferritic-martensitic steels, which are candidate materials for the next generation fission and fusion nuclear energy systems. He has performed in situ irradiations of these steels at the Intermediate Electron Microscope (IVEM) at Argonne National Laboratory. IVEM is a transmission electron microscope interfaced with ion accelerators, which allows the user to monitor and characterize radiation damage as it occurs. Cem now works for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
