Brendan Ensor - Materials for Nuclear Power Group
Brendan Ensor graduated with his PhD in Nuclear Engineering iin the Fall of 2016 and now works at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory as part of the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. He graduated with a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012 and began his graduate education at Penn State in the fall of 2012. He was awarded the Rickover Fellowship in 2012 by the Naval Reactors Division of the Department of Energy and worked closely with scientists and advisers at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory and Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory. His research focused on the corrosion of zirconium alloys and study of the oxide layer formed to better understand the corrosion mechanisms that occur on these alloys. This is accomplished by use of synchrotron radiation from the Advanced Photon Source at the Argonne National Laboratory to investigate the materials using a variety of techniques.
Originally from Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey, Brendan is an avid sports fan and supports the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and Penn State football. A former varsity high school basketball player he also enjoys following college basketball. He attended Monsignor Donovan HS in Toms River where he competed on the varsity track team as a high hurdler which he continued with at MIT as a member of the varsity Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams. When he is not watching sports he enjoys playing video games and travelling, particularly to places that have a nice beach.
